Air Dolomiti CEO: Emerging new players creating ‘crowded’ competitive situation

Air Dolomiti CEO Joerg Eberhart said it is a “comforting fact” that European passenger increases are forecast in the coming years (AIR Convention, 16-Aug-2019). He admitted however the industry is going through a “difficult time”, with new players emerging creating a “crowded” competitive situation. Mr Eberhart argued it is “vital” to create synergies to enhance bargaining power and overcome higher fuel costs. Mr Eberhart also reported the carrier plans to increase its fleet of Embraer E195s to 26 by 2023. The carrier’s E195 fleet currently stands at 14, according to the CAPA Fleet Database. He said the carrier will also look to increase services between Italy and Germany as well as connections operated in partnership with Lufthansa such as MunichBrusselsPragueSofia and Bilbao. Mr Eberhart noted internal plans include a doubling of employees to around 1000 in the next four years.
