Air Canada to expand rouge fleet to counter ULCC competition

Air Canada reportedly plans to expand the fleet of Air Canada rouge to counter competition from upcoming ULCCs, operating the additional aircraft on regional services (Canadian Press/Toronto Star, 16-Feb-2018). rouge reportedly plans to take delivery of several narrowbody aircraft in summer 2018, while its A320/A321 aircraft will have the flexibility to convert to high density configurations. CEO and president Calin Rovinescu commented: "We needed to have the capability of introducing a lower-cost competitive vehicle, both on offence and on defence".
