Air Canada ‘just not prepared’ to concede market share ‘anywhere’

Air Canada senior director of sales for Canada Virgilio Russi stated the basic economy fare does not form its “core business”, however “we needed to pre-emptively bring in those fares” (Travel Pulse, 17-Apr-2018). He noted: “It’s not a fare that’s profitable for us and we hope not to sell many of those”. VP global sales Duncan Bureau also said the carrier is gauging interest in the fare, with the fares to be deployed on markets where ULCC fares are already in place. He said Air Canada is “not prepared to concede market share anywhere”. He added: “We’re just not prepared to do that. We have a very well equipped main line and then we have to complement that. We’re very confident we have right cost structure, and the network is expanding at a significant pace”.
