Air Belgium to be a ‘niche player’ with premium business class, no frills economy: CEO

Air Belgium CEO Niky Terzakis stated the start up is a “niche player”, with a premium business class and no frills economy service (South China Morning Post, 11-Mar-2018). Mr Terzakis explained: “We want to come in with a different product, a fresh view… And, of course, low cost”. He added: “The positioning in the market is quite simple… We want to be a very competitive airline, merging service classes and the low cost element of it… We intend to offer competitive rates”. Air Belgium will employ 360 staff by the end of Apr-2018. He stated the company “definitely wish to be market disruptors” (Airport Business, 09-Mar-2018). He said: “We’re looking at a fresh and very competitive offer, not just fare but also service wise… The Belgian O&D market is pretty significant and the lack of long haul flights from Belgium to the world’s largest passenger market – Asia – is remarkable to say the least”. On the company’s ambition, Mr Terzakis said aims encompass a “selection of Asian destinations with an offering that makes sense to leisure, premium and business travellers”.
