Air Astana and Uzbekistan Airways respond to intensifying competition with multi brand strategies

    CAPA – Centre for Aviation, in a report entitled: ‘Air Astana and Uzbekistan Airways add LCC brands’ stated (13-Nov-2018) Kazakhstan‘s Air Astana and Uzbekistan Airways adopted multi-brand strategies in response to intensifying competition in the Central Asia and CIS regions, with the carrier planning to launch LCC brands in 2019. Air Astana is focusing mainly on the domestic market with its new LCC while Uzbekistan Airways is focusing on the Russian market. Russia accounts for more than half of total international seat capacity in Central Asia. LCCs currently account for 3% of seat capacity in Central Asia, marking one of the lowest LCC penetration rates among all the world’s regions or subregions. [more – CAPA Analysis]
