Africa World Airlines engages government over national airline status

    Africa World Airlines (AWA) submitted a proposal and held discussions with Ghana‘s Civil Aviation Ministry to be designated as the flag carrier of Ghana, according to AWA co chairman and Asogli State chief Togbe Afede XIV (B&FT, 19-Dec-2017). “We submitted our proposals and had meetings with the aviation authorities, and I must credit them for their openness and desire to make it happen for Ghana – and we are happy to be part of that process,” he commented. He added the carrier has “a lot of financial muscle” through its key partner Hainan Airlines, part of HNA GroupGhana Airways, the former national airline, ceased operations in 2004.
