AeroProfessional: 'Little collaborative action' over last two years to address pilot skills shortage

AeroProfessional, in a report entitled: 'Grounded before take-off: EU regional pilot shortage perspective two years on', stated (22-May-2018) "little collaborative action has taken place" over the last two years to address the pilot skills shortages, in particular in the EU. Europe's pilot skills shortage will be further exacerbated by increasing rates of staff changes and operational disruptions, with growing demand seen in Africa, Asia and the Middle East, AeroProfessional noted. AeroProfessional cited training costs, type ratings, pay, work conditions, mandatory retirement and EU workforce migration as "major barriers" to solving the skills shortage, with 64.6% of pilots holding a positive view of working outside the EU.
