ADV: Climate protection through aviation taxes ‘ecologically and economically counterproductive’

German Airports Association (ADV) appealed (18-Sep-2019) to the German CDU and SPD coalition to not go ahead with doubling aviation taxes for domestic air traffic. ADV CEO Ralph Beisel argued German airlines and airports are already “massively disadvantaged” in terms of European and international competition, adding increasing aviation taxes will mean Germany‘s connectivity will be impacted as airlines reduce capacity and cease routes. Mr Beisel also argued climate policy regulation through national taxes and levies is “ecologically and economically counterproductive”, as it shifts traffic in favour of airlines not burdened by taxes and deprives the potential for investment in modern aircraft and innovative climate protection measures. [more – original PR – German]
