ACI World: Airport privatisation in Australia has not increased cost for users

1 June, 2018

ACI World DG Angela Gittens stated (01-Jun-2018) the claim airport privatisation has increased costs for users is not supported by evidence. Ms Gittens added: "Privatisation has been a way to finance much needed infrastructure investments, and Australian airports continue to be able to finance their operations and development. Thanks to their revenues, major projects such as the Brisbane Airport runway, now under construction, and planned new runways at Melbourne and Perth airports, are good examples of airport investment increasing capacity". ACI World also noted Australia's airports have invested AUD11.5 billion (USD8.68 billion) on airport improvements over the last decade, without taxpayer funding, and airfares have decreased.
