ACI Europe president outlines ways to mitigate drone safety risks

    ACI Europe president and Munich Airport CEO Dr Michael Kerkloh, commenting on the increasing relevance of drone safety and regulation, outlined (23-Jan-2019) “two obvious short term ways” of mitigating risk, as follows:

    • Establish common rules on the exact area around airports to be designated as ‘no-drone zones’;
    • Ensure geofencing technology preventing drones from entering no fly zones is mandatory for all commercially sold drones.

    In addition, ACI Europe asserts detection capabilities from the ground and procedures for preventing drones from entering airport perimeters also need to be examined. [more – original PR]
