ACI Europe calls for connectivity restoration scheme to assist airlines in resuming strategic routes

29 April, 2020

ACI Europe called (28-Apr-2020) for the following measures to be implemented at the EU level in response to the COVID-19 crisis:

  • A new framework to allow EU member states to establish short term air connectivity restoration schemes to provide airlines with operating aid to restart routes considered strategic for the economic recovery;
  • Improvements in slot allocation. Airlines should be required to notify airports, at both ends of a route, of cancellations and return slots to the coordinators with a minimum of four weeks' notice. This will allow airports to match operations to actual traffic levels and also to attract other carriers to restore connectivity during the recovery phase. [more - original PR]
