ACCC accepts undertakings from Australian carriers to review consumer rights policies

17 December, 2018

Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) accepted (17-Dec-2018) court enforceable undertakings from Jetstar, Tigerair Australia, Qantas and Virgin Australia after concerns each airline had made misleading representations on their websites on consumer rights to refunds and resupply in the event of significant delays or cancellations. ACCC stated each carrier has committed to reviewing their refund policies, compliance programmes, websites and booking systems to address the ACCC concerns, and has made improvements to websites, policies and procedures as a result. Jetstar, Qantas and Virgin Australia will also review consumer complaints made in a specified time period and offer refunds or other remedies to consumers entitled to remedies originally but did not receive them.
