A look at the most engaging social media campaigns doing the rounds

1 November, 2017

There is no doubt in anyone's mind that we are living in the age of social media. We are constantly engaging with friends and families from all over the world, and as consumers now interact with businesses on a level that - prior to even a few years ago - would have seemed almost impossible.

Businesses have found social media to be a quick and easy way to get their message to a large targeted audience at almost no cost. Regardless of the medium being Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat or WeChat the opportunities are endless. The travel industry is no exception to this, and we are finding more and more organisations trying to be the first to come up with new and interesting ways to engage people via social media.

Whether it be new announcements, sales or purely branding exercises, they have definitely worked out the formula for a great social media interaction. We delved into the depths of our local feeds and included our favourite most recent posts for your enjoyment, in no particular order.

Tourism Australia

Tourism Australia recently launched a new campaign, 'Aussie News Today,' to attract more young people to Australia. Aussie News Today was launched atop the Sydney Harbour Bridge by former Wallabies rugby union star Nick Cummins, aka the 'The Honey Badger'. Aussie News Today is intending to capture humorous and interesting stories about Australia and share them with young people through Tourism Australia's digital channels.

Air New Zealand

Not only does it engage with those on board Air New Zealand flights, it really does make for great social media content.

Sometimes it pays to have lady luck on your side, especially when sponsoring a sporting team. This year, Tigerair enjoyed additional exposure thanks to the team winning the NRL Grand Final.

Virgin Australia

Virgin Australia has generously been the official wishgranting partner for Starlight, and recently helped grant their 10,000th wish. Social media helps the airline get Starlight's message out there and continue their important work.

Qantas Airways

Qantas welcomed its first Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner to Sydney. What better way to get the message out there than with social media? We can expect to see Qantas ramp up the social media as the launch dates get closer. Firstly in December for the Melbourne-Los Angeles inaugural flight but more importantly into 2018 as the carrier prepares for Perth-London.
