95% of New Zealanders see benefits of international tourism for the country

Tourism Industry Aotearoa reported (Dec-2018) around 95% of New Zealand citizens agree international tourism benefits the country, an increase of 3ppts year-on-year according to Mood Of The Nation research. "As we head into our peak visitor season Kiwis are telling us they can see the wider benefits tourism brings to their communities through local employment, local amenities and services as well as stronger businesses and economic growth", Tourism New Zealand CEO Stephen England-Hall said. Public concerns of the number of international visitors stabilised at 21%, the lowest figure since Nov-2016, with tourism infrastructure pressure remaining the highest concern for New Zealanders (44%), followed by road congestion/safety (37%-41%) and environmental impacts (31%).
