15% rise in Indian arrivals to Australia in 12 months to Oct-2017

    Australia‘s Department of Immigration and Border Protection chief migration officer Tania Gerlach said arrivals from India to Australia increased 15% year-on-year to 294,000 in the 12 months to Oct-2017 (PTI, 08-Jan-2018). India became the ninth largest inbound market for Australia and is on track to reach the goal of 300,000 visitors p/a by 2020 ahead of target. Indian visitor spend in Australia for the 12 months to Sep-2017 increased 26% to AUD1.45 billion (USD1.1 billion), making India the eighth largest market in terms of tourist spend. Ms Gerlach also noted the success of the e-lodgement process, with over 60% of the total tourist visa applications now received online with a record month in Nov-2017 for e-lodgements. To encourage travellers from India, Tourism Australia will continue to focus on promoting nature and wildlife, alongside aquatic and coastal experiences, under its global campaign, ‘There’s Nothing like Australia’.
